ULiège at symposium “Pumps and turbines, challenges for management and design in Flanders”

On November 21, 2023, Joris Hardy from ULiège participated in the Symposium “Pumps and turbines, challenges for management and design in Flanders” organised at the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory in Antwerp.

The event focused on fish safety in pumps and turbines. The audience consisted of waterway managers and manufacturers of pump turbines. Representing the academic institution and PLOTO project, Joris Hardy presented on waterway resilience and energy efficiency.

In the Session 2  “Research into energy efficiency/optimization of pumps/turbines” he introduced:

  1. How the PLOTO project examines waterway resilience to climate change by creating a multi-hazard model (climate, seismic, and flood) across three case studies (Hungary, Romania, Liège).
  2. ULiege’s contribution to the project, specifically our work on modelling floods caused by dike breaches along the Albert Canal and the River Meuse from Liège to Lanaye, along with our initial findings presented in a flood map.
