Danube Ports Days 2023: A Convergence of Innovation and Expertise in Waterway Transport

The Danube Ports Days event has firmly established itself as a pivotal gathering on the calendar of the Inland Waterway Transport (IWT) community within the Danube Region and beyond. This transnational platform convenes decision-makers, industry experts, and stakeholders from the IWT sector to delve into crucial discussions surrounding port development matters.

This year’s edition, held on November 23 and 24, 2023, at thinkport VIENNA, marked a significant milestone for the IWT community, drawing together a comprehensive array of EU stakeholders. The hybrid workshop format fostered an environment for participants from business, national administrations, port authorities, social partners, and sector organisations to explore innovative tools and solutions aligned with green objectives. It offered fertile ground for sharing experiences, exchanging best practices, and addressing shared challenges in their transition towards sustainability.

The event provided a robust platform for collaboration between public and private entities vested in port development and terminal logistics. The collaborative spirit aimed to stimulate the exchange of expertise and gather valuable feedback, nurturing a collective effort towards more efficient and sustainable waterway transportation.

Following the formal sessions, partners had the opportunity to visit the MS Vindobona ship, which featured dedicated spaces for project dissemination. The PLOTO project, prominently showcased at a designated table, offered informative roll-ups and leaflets to interested parties. Adjacent to the display, a continuous 01:10-minute presentation about the project’s objectives captivated attendees from the start of the evening event until its conclusion. The overwhelming interest generated a flurry of inquiries, predominantly focused on the project’s use cases. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, expressing gratitude for the invaluable insights provided by the project.

Szidónia Kakuk, from RSOE, attended the event and represented the PLOTO project with the interested participants.

The Danube Ports Days 2023 not only provided a forum for discourse but also served as a testament to the collective commitment towards innovative, sustainable, and efficient waterway transportation systems.
