PLOTO Showcased at Brussels Event on Resilient Inland Waterways

In July 2025, PLOTO took part in the Joint Final Event on Resilient Transport Infrastructure for Inland Waterways, hosted by CINEA – the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency – in Brussels.

The event brought together the PLOTO, CRISTAL, and ReNEW projects, all funded under Horizon Europe and jointly supported by €22.5 million in EU funding. Together, these initiatives span 58 partners across 16 countries, working to deliver innovative, climate-resilient solutions for Europe’s inland waterways.

PLOTO presented key findings and pilot outcomes developed across Living Labs in Poland, Belgium, Italy, and other partner countries. These included digital decision-support tools and strategies to improve flood resilience and infrastructure adaptability.

Discussions with EU representatives and sector stakeholders focused on scaling up solutions that work, identifying key barriers to implementation, and outlining the future of IWT in the face of climate change. Core messages emphasised the need to digitise systems, modernise infrastructure with modular and flexible solutions, and strengthen cross-border collaboration within IWW corridors.

The event marked a significant milestone in knowledge sharing and policy dialogue, with project results contributing directly to shaping the next phase of resilient and sustainable inland waterway transport in Europe.
